Bought two as backup; I've already sold the other one and looking to sell this quickly as I've downsized to a couple WD My books without Raid. I really hate to see this Raid unit go as it can be connected via eSata or USB 3.0 for blazing read/write speeds. Great for Macs or high performance Laptop PC's.
Once you have configured the device as a 16TB raid drive using the software and having the drives recognized via USB, you can connect via eSata without a port multiplier.
The Vantec HX4R is a versatile enclosure that allows you to mount single drives and they can be independently read and write from the remaining Raid drives. The Enclosure itself can handle up to 4 x 4TB drives giving you up to 16TB in a tiny footprint at eSata or USB 3.0 speeds.
Raid means that your data is protected by either duplication of your data on a mirrored drive or by parity bit with raid 5. There are many ways to configure this unit using the software tools.
Currently this drive is set up with 8TB of storage which can be used as independent drives or made into a raid.
