VINTAGE INUIT ART SOAPSTONE CARVING faintly signed Rearing Polar Bear This is a vintage old style Inuit carving of a rearing polar bear composed in a beautifully coloured stone, lower half black graduating into midtone green in the upper section with copper veins throughout. Circa late '60s. This beautifully coloured/veined stone was used in Cape Dorset during this period. Weight : 550grs Measurements: 5” x 1 5/8” w x two ¼” d (12.5 cm x four cm x 5.5 cm) On 1 of the feet, there is writing which may be very faint syllabics (possibly a Si and a Pi).
