Beautiful and rare Nuu Chah Nulth aka Nootka Cedar weaving on glass fishing float from the late 1960s to early 1970s. Maker was a Nuu Chah Nulth woman from Port Alberni. This rare weaved art depicts natives fishing from their canoe and possibly a seal float...very easily could be a whaling scene as this was quite common to the Nootka cultural practices. The lower part of the weaving depicts a whale and then another whale being towed by the canoe. This is a very beautiful piece of history. Please note that I have 3 up for auction. This 1 is the middle size...there is a larger 1 and a smaller 1 as well. Go to my store to view in the 1st Nations Art section.
