Born in 1953, he was originally from Hall Beach and later lived in Igloolik which is about 70 kilometer. (40mis) away. Joelie specializes in soapstone sculpture, with a range of bird, animal and human subjects. He also occasionally creates wonderfully intricate ivory carvings. His work is in the prestigious Winnipeg Art Carousel collection of Inuit art. Examples of his carvings were also included in the Inuit art exhibition “Echoes of the Drum” – held by Carousel of the Arctic.
