An Excellent Example of Authentic Quality Canadian 1st Nations Indigenous Art. For sale is a Northwest Coast cedar carved and painted raven moon mask. The mask is decorated with braided trim around the mask face. The border ring of the mask has a relief carving that depicts a raven and a human and is exquisitely done. In Northwest Coast mythology, their are many different stories about the Raven and the Moon. In general, Raven stole the moon (as well as the sun), along with all the stars and flung them into the sky to lighten the darkness of the night. Judging from the patina, this mask is likely from the 1960s and although it is not signed, I believe it is from the Squamish nation. Many Northwest coast masks from the 1960s are not signed. It is very well carved and a really nice piece. This LARGE mask is 19"H X 17 3/4" W X 6" D. It is in very terrific condition, with minor imperfections that 1 would expect in a cedar mask of this vintage. I have been selling AUTHENTIC Northwest Coast Masks since 1999 on eBay so buy with confidence. Thank you for looking and please browse & follow my store as new art is added weekly.
